A Rare Sight

Mineral Wells residents were treated to a rare juxtaposition Monday night as two of the brightest naked-eye planets – Venus (the brighter and shown directly below) and Jupiter, lower right – joined a crescent moon. On Sunday night, the two planets appeared their closest in an event known as ‘Planetary Conjunction.’ In some parts of the world Monday night, skygazers saw a ‘happy face,’ with the crescent moon forming a smile. According to stargazing101, the next time Venus, Jupiter and the moon will be as close and visible as they were Monday will be Nov. 18, 2052.
