The annual Zonta Tour of Homes is Sunday, Dec. 7, beginning at 2 p.m. On the tour this year are the homes of Annette and Brian Bennett, Dolores and Vernon Moran, Pat and Bobby Bazzell, Adena and Garry Weatherford, Kippi and Todd Engle and Pet Western Animal Hospital.
The location for refreshments this year is the First Christian Church.
Tickets are $10 in advance and may be purchased from any Zonta Club member or at the Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce, 511 E. Hubbard St. Tickets are also available on the day of the tour for $12 each at any of the tour locations.
Kippi and Todd Engle's home, at 1601 N.W. 4th Ave., will be featured on the Zonta Tour of Homes. While Kippi and Todd moved into this beautiful rock home in April, this home has been in Mineral Wells since 1937 when John and Margaret Ritchie moved in. The Ritchie's lived in this home for the remainder of their lives.
Oscar Burns of Mineral Wells is known to have done the rockwork on this beautiful home. Mrs. Ritchie could be seen spending her days tending to her beautiful flower gardens at this location. One special feature of this historic home is the metal windows in front that open with a crank handle. Most of the windows are hand glazed.
The original structure of the home included a garage that has since been closed in to create a downstairs room. At the time it was built, N.W. 15th Street was a dirt road and N.W. 4th Avenue was a brick street.
The Engles love the balcony that overlooks 15th Street. This balcony is seated just off the master bedroom. Their home is filled with beautiful antiques, some of which were purchased in antique shops in downtown Mineral Wells, including a beautiful Austrian Crystal Chandelier.
The home had a complete remodel within the last two years but is still home to the original hardwood floors, beautiful brick fireplace and metal windows.
Zonta Club of Mineral Wells has consistently supported the advancement of women through service and advocacy locally and worldwide. Locally, the Zonta Club of Mineral Wells has spearheaded such efforts as Christmas Baskets for Meals on Wheels recipients to whom they deliver meals each week and “Koats 4 Kids.” The Koats 4 Kids campaign benefits children at Lamar, Houston and Travis Elementary schools who have a need for a coat in the winter.
Zonta Club of Mineral Wells also supports the United Way of Palo Pinto County and has in the last year made donations the Palo Pinto General Hospital for a Lifeline system, Hope Inc. and the National Vietnam War Museum garden projects.
