Mineral Wells firefighters responded to a house fire at approximately 10:50 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of Carter Road.

Fire officials reported that the one-story wooden structure showed flames approximately two to three minutes after their arrival. The flames began in the kitchen, ignited by an electrical short on an appliance, officials said. It reportedly smoldered a long time before crawling up an inside wall.

There was 100 percent smoke damage to the structure and 30 percent structure damage, estimated fire officials. They used an estimated 2,000 gallons to extinguish the fire.

No one was home at the time the blaze ignited and no injuries were reported. The scene was cleared at approximately 1:15 p.m.

At 12:41 a.m. Sunday, Mineral Wells police stopped Mineral Wells resident Timothy Smith, 45, on his bicycle at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Street and S.E. 2nd Avenue.

Officers reportedly observed Smith reach into his pocket and drop a piece of paper on the ground. The paper reportedly contained one rock of crack cocaine, officials said. Smith was arrested for possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram.

Sparks was arrested for assault-family violence and unlawful restraint.
