Mineral Wells police arrested 17-year-old Joaquin Padron Mancilla Wednesday afternoon for simple assault that allegedly occurred on a school bus.
According to police reports, local authorities received a call at 4:09 p.m. from a mother in the 300 block of S.W. 22nd Street in reference to her juvenile student being assaulted by a neighboring student on the school bus. Officials reported that they approached Mancilla and asked if he struck the victim; Mancilla allegedly said he punched him.
Man with history of assaults wanted
A felony warrant has been issued for 28-year-old Mineral Wells resident Casey Lewis Royer after he allegedly assaulted a female victim on Monday in the 800 block of S.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
Mineral Wells police reports indicated an officer was flagged down in reference to a person being beaten up. The victim reportedly told authorities her husband assaulted her and kicked her repeatedly. Another witness reported that Royer allegedly saw authorities and ran out of the residence, heading south.
Mineral Wells Police Capt. Mike McAllester explained the warrant for assault with bodily injury was enhanced to a felony warrant because Royer has a prior conviction of assault-family violence.
Royer was arrested on April 16 on an assault-family violence charge involving the same victim. Almost seven years to the day, Royer was arrested on Sept. 25, 2000, on charges of assault with injury and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
Lost, stolen and found
Less than 24 hours after a Mineral Wells man lost a set of rims and tires out of the back of his truck, they were recovered and returned.
While driving down the roadway Tuesday evening, the victim was driving a pickup with four wheels and tires in the bed of the truck when the tailgate reportedly opened and the items fell out. A witness reported seeing a red Dodge pickup stop and pick up the tires and rims before leaving the scene. The rims were valued at $700 while the tires were valued at $500.
The next day, a business in the 300 block of East Hubbard Street contacted authorities at 4:05 p.m. in reference to an individual trying to sell possibly stolen tires. An officer reportedly recovered the tires and released them back to the original owner.
Mid-week flames
Firefighters fought two fires Wednesday afternoon beginning with an RV that ignited at 3:43 p.m. in the 300 block of Millsap Highway where it was parked in a driveway.
Firefighters responded to the scene, using 200 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze. The probable cause was reported as an electrical problem behind the refrigerator. The estimated value of the loss is $20,000 for the RV and $12,000 for its contents.
The scene was cleared at 4:35 p.m. with no injuries reported.
Another call approximately 30 minutes later had the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department responding to a residence in the 50 block of Old Oak Lane where a controlled burn got out of hand. The owner was reportedly burning broom weed when it got beyond his control.
Firefighters used 200 gallons of water to extinguish the conflagration, clearing the scene at 5:36 p.m. with no injuries reported.
Arrests
The Mineral Wells Police Department reported making the following arrests:
¥ Bryan Everet Johnson, 23, of Mineral Wells, was arrested Wednesday for theft less than $50.
¥ Juan Francisco Zapata, 20, of Mineral Wells, was arrested Wednesday for reckless driving.
