Mineral Wells Rotarians ate cake Wednesday in celebration of their organization’s 90th anniversary and the swearing in of their new officers and directors for the upcoming year.

Past-president Connie Ball briefly read through a list of the past presidents, a number of which are still involved in Rotary.

“In looking back over the list, there have been some amazing men and women that have served this club,” she told the members and gathered guests. Ball recounted some of the activities their organization participated in over the years.

“It has a tremendous history,” she remarked. “In the last five years, we’ve done a tremendous amount through grants.”

Other past presidents were asked for a few words, including 1992-93 president Janet Holland and 1983-84 president Willie Casper.

Holland told the audience she’d known about Rotary all her life bcommented on how she was able to get to know people through Rotary and through unity, saying their organization has been a successful one.

“It takes all of our minds and efforts working together,” she said. “It’s shown by the increased success.”

Casper described his introduction to the Rotary organization through Ellis White, who was a past president in 1962-63. Since joining the club, Casper has had perfect attendance for the past 36 years. He also spoke of the organization’s involvement through a literacy program.

“We have influenced a lot of young people to read,” he remarked.

District Governor Dave Mason was the guest speaker at Wednesday’s event, praising the efforts of the Mineral Wells club and providing an update of the organization’s global impact and influence.

“It’s my great pleasure to be here for your 90th anniversary,” he said.

Mason swore in Ken Williamson as the Mineral Wells Rotary Club’s newest president. There was also a changing of positions and new people added to the board of officers and directors.
