PALO PINTO COUNTY - Waves of animal feed spilled across U.S. Highway 281 South Monday morning after an 18-wheeler trailer rolled over.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety reports, the rollover occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. 7.1 miles south of Santo.

The rig, driven by Charles Harber, 60, of Whitesboro, was hauling a trailer of animal feed southbound on Hwy. 281. Officials reported that Harber left the roadway onto the southbound shoulder.

DPS reported that Harber overcorrected the rig, which rolled the trailer onto its side and it went into a skid. The truck came to a rest in the ditch; it sustained damage to its right side and the undercarriage, according to DPS reports.

According to Santo Volunteer Fire Department, part of the load of animal feed spilled on to the highway while the trailer rested across both lanes.

Santo VFD officials said they used a front-end loader to scoop the scattered feed into a dump truck and removed it from the scene.

DPS reported that both the truck and the trailer were towed from the scene.

Harber was not reported injured in the single-vehicle wreck; according to DPS officials, he was issued a citation for failure to drive in a single lane.
