Constable Gary Morris and the Mineral Wells Police Department got their man Tuesday morning after a chase on foot through several neighborhoods in the southeast part of town Monday evening that brought residents out of their homes.
Morris said he and four police officers went to a residence in the 1700 block of S.E. 10th Street to serve a warrant for parole violation when the suspect, Joshua Clayton, bolted.
Clayton jumped a security fence just after Morris made contact with him in the backyard, according to Morris.
Clayton then ran through several backyards and one house but eluded Morris, police officers and the several other law enforcement personnel who showed up to help.
According to an Index reporter, a family around the 1900 block of S.E. 9th Street said their daughter went outside, saw a man in shorts hiding in the bushes near the house, screamed and ran inside. The man then reportedly ran westbound across the street.
Morris said he cleared several houses as a courtesy to residents.
Clayton was arrested Tuesday morning in the 200 block of N.E. 3rd Street after Morris received information about his whereabouts.
Motorcycle stolen
A 1979 Suzuki motorcycle valued at $3,000 was reported stolen Monday from a residence in the 500 block of N.W. 12th Street, according to police.
