County announces new fire protocol

By LIBBY CLUETT | lcluett@mineralwellsindex.com

PALO PINTO COUNTY – After a series of large and small fires in less than a week, Palo Pinto County has initiated a new procedure to combat wildfires.

“As of noon, Wednesday, for any grass fire in the county, we are dispatching two different departments,” announced County Fire Marshal Buddy Harwell.

He said the VFDs are on board with the plan, which means Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office dispatch will automatically call the two nearest volunteer fire departments to respond to grass fires.

“We’re doubling up so [the fires] don’t get out of control,” said Harwell. “We’re doing kind of a task force.”
