PALO PINTO – The business at hand for Palo Pinto County commissioners Monday included hearing from the public on the 2012 tax increase, slated to be approved Thursday.
Although many times citizens do not voice their thoughts during the posted public hearing periods on the county budget and tax rate, Monday’s meeting saw Gary M. McConnell, retired from Perry Equipment Company and former Palo Pinto Hospital District board president, who offered his thoughts on these and on the values determined by the Palo Pinto County Appraisal District.
While the commissioners have no authority regarding property values, which McConnell said didn’t drop when the market price of his property dropped, they did have authority over other issues, namely the county’s 2013 budget and 2012 tax rate of 33.20 cents per $100 of taxable property value.
