Lt. Col. Robert Clayton Evans, MWHS grad of 1987, retired June 28 from the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. He served in the Army for 25 years.
LTC Evans graduated from Mineral Wells High School and went directly to West Point as a presidential appointee by Ronald Reagan. He graduated from West Point in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Sciences and went to the artillery branch of the Army. From that point he served in various areas including Korea, Fort Bragg, Fort Hood, Kuwait, Fort Carson, Ramstein AFB in Germany, Iraq, Fort Sam Houston, Naples, Italy with NATO operations, and several Middle East areas and South American assignments.
LTC Evans’ awards and decorations include Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters; Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters; Joint Service Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters; the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters; the Joint Service Achievement Medal; the Army Achievement Medal; the Army Meritorious Unit Commendation;the National Defense Medal; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; the Southwest Asia Service Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Medal; the Army Service Ribbon; the Overseas Service Ribbon; and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.
A retirement reception was held locally at the American Legion Post 75 on July 4th for family, friends and fellow American Legion members to visit with LTC Evans and his family.
He is married to Rachel Lynette Enicks, a former West Point graduate and member of the U.S. Army until the birth of her second child when she resigned to be a full-time mother. The couple have two children, Angelina and Robert Clayton Evans Jr.
LTC Robert Clayton Evans is the son of Mary Creighton, of Mineral Wells.
