Rising Stars Art Gallery is hosting an evening of food, fun, music and – of course, art – on Friday, Feb. 10, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Shawn Gibson is the featured artist, and his photography speaks for itself. Following is an excerpt from his biography that shares some of his thoughts on what his photography has come to mean to him and how it has helped shape his life:
“I am a fifth-generation rancher at Possum Kingdom Lake. My family was ranching this area 80 years before the river valley was flooded to make the lake. The beautiful, rugged Palo Pinto Hill Country is my home and in my blood.
“While attending Mineral Wells High School, I was a photographer for the school paper. I learned the basics of photography and darkroom work there. However, I really was not involved in photography for most of my adult life. During a trip to Yellowstone in 2009, I really got the bug again. So, I got some good basic equipment and started to work relearning and honing my skills. I continue to improve my knowledge and ability through reading, experimentation and regular entry in photography contests.
My photography is mainly based on nature and outdoor scenes, many from around the lake and Palo Pinto County. But, I also enjoy doing abstracts and macro photography.”
Shawn and his wife, Peggy, will be on hand to visit with those attending. Rising Stars Art Gallery is located at 113 N.E. 1st Ave. in downtown Mineral Wells. For more info, call (940) 325-3133 or email info@risingstarsartgallery.com.
