Mineral Wells resident Peter “Matt” Matthew Espinosa, 66, continues to be detained while awaiting trial on a charge of possession of child pornography.

A federal grand jury indicted Espinosa in June and his trial is scheduled for August.

Espinosa was arrested May 20 after Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents served a search warrant at his residence in the 1800 block of S.E. 13th Street, less than one block from Mineral Wells Junior High School and Travis Elementary.

According to the affidavit attached to federal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Fort Worth, “there is probable cause to believe that on or before March 19, 2009 … Espinosa committed the offenses of possession and receipt of child pornography.”

“During the interview, Espinosa admitted to possessing child pornography, and stated the child pornography files would be located on several CDs in his computer room,” the sworn testimony of an ICE special agent states. “The computer files were located and were found to be prepubescent female minors as young as seven years of age.”

Espinosa also reportedly admitted to purchasing subscriptions to child pornography sites.

The Grapevine Police Department is involved in the investigation and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex C. Lewis.
