On June 25, Gordon residents came out to support the local fire department. A baked potato supper was sponsored by CARE (Community Animal Rescue Effort) benfitting the Gordon VFD. The food was donated by Flossies Cafe in Strawn. CARE served approximately 160 baked potatoes dinners and a nice sum was raised in donations for the fire department. CARE had an information table set up with information on a low-cost spay and neutering program that CARE and the Palo Pinto Humane Society will be offering in Gordon and the surrounding area. For more information on that program or CARE call Pam at (817) 929-5355 or Terry at (254) 672-5501. A benefit is planned for the Strawn VFD in July and we look forward to the communities coming out to support them also. CARE will celebrate its second anniversary this month. The group has grown to 35 adults and 20 youth (VITS) members and has a goal of building a facility to serve the Strawn, Mingus, Gordon and Lake Palo Pinto areas.
