From Staff Reports
Area residents will again be able to enjoy a Fourth of July fireworks celebration – but in a new location.
In years past, the show took place at Holiday Hills Country Club. But as crowds grew larger so did various problems with traffic and parking.
Organizers say they hope those problems have been solved by moving the annual event to Ram Stadium. It will take place Saturday evening, with the fireworks show beginning shortly after sunset, which will occur about 8:45 p.m.
This year’s aerial display will be synchronized to music that can be best heard inside the stadium. Chicken Express, Community Christian School, Eventide Water and Well of Life Church are underwriting the costs for this year’s show.
The event is free and open the public. The Mineral Wells Booster Club will have concession stands open, and stadium restrooms will also be available.
Nancy Stuart said those in the stadium will have the best view of the show from the east, or visitor’s, side stands, however she said the fireworks will be directed over the stadium and said those who choose to sit on the west side will also have a good view of the fireworks.
She said Lone Star Fireworks, of Graham, will again produce the fireworks show – sending up as much fireworks as $15,000 will pay for.
Stuart said now that the stadium venue is in play, she hopes to get more businesses involved and make the show even larger in years to come.
“It can turn into a really nice event,” Stuart said. “I’m hoping next year it will grow even bigger and better. I’m hoping we can get it eventually to the (size of the show in) Granbury,” which said runs as high as $80,000 to produce.
She said the Mineral Wells ISD and city police and fire departments have been appreciative and supportive of moving the show to Ram Stadium, especially to make traffic going in and going out a much more orderly process, hopefully reducing the number of accidents and congestion.
Those attending are reminded that individual use of fireworks is not permitted within city limits. People are also asked to respect private property and use public parking areas, even if they choose not to go inside the stadium.
