Several area servicemen complete basic trainings

McDonald completes Air Force training

Air Force Airman Colby R. McDonald graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

McDonald is the son of Kelli Harris, of Mineral Wells, and Steven McDonald, of Weatherford.

He is a 2009 graduate of Mineral Wells High School.

Bayless’ basic Navy training complete

Navy Seaman Recruit Roger D. Bayless recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Bayless completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly “Navy’’ flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.

Bayless is the son of Terri A. and stepson of Eric G. Benton, of Millsap. He is a 2012 graduate of Millsap High School.

Sandoval completes Air Force basic

Air Force Airman Greyson R. Sandoval graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Sandoval is the son of Roger Sandoval and Kim Sandoval, both of Millsap. He is a 2009 graduate of North Hills Private School.

  • Reflections on Neighborhood Watch and Solicitations

A couple of things happened that encouraged me to write this particular column. First of all, our neighborhood formed a Neighborhood Watch group. This is being encouraged by Chief of Police Dean Sullivan and supported by the Mineral Wells Police Department. As we have had one home invasion in our neighborhood (burglars broke in while the neighbors were asleep in bed), we really want to watch out for each other!
