Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hueber will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 15.
They were married in 1952 in Indianapolis, Ind., where they were both raised and educated.
Howard attended Butler University in Indianapolis before going to work for the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company, involved in the manufacturing of penicillin. He was drafted into the Army in November of 1953 and served in Korea. He was stationed at Camp Wolters as an operation sergeant and finished his last few months in service as a life guard at the base pool.
Mr. and Mrs. Hueber both fell in love with the west, Mineral Wells and the friendly people and decided to make this their home. They entered the Dairy Queen business in 1956 and operated the North Oak Dairy Queen for 25 years.
Mr. Hueber joined the Mineral Wells Police Department under Fred Foreman and served for several years before becoming an employee of the United States Postal Service, where he retired after 27 years of service as a city mail carrier. Mr. Hueber has stayed active in law enforcement for the last 37 years, and is still commissioned by the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy.
Mrs. Hueber was employed part time at Lamar Elementary School and enjoyed working with the young children very much.
The Huebers are most proud of their family, including their daughter, Tammie, and son-in-law, Terry Maston. They also live here in Mineral Wells and they are thankful for that.

Reflections on Neighborhood Watch and Solicitations
A couple of things happened that encouraged me to write this particular column. First of all, our neighborhood formed a Neighborhood Watch group. This is being encouraged by Chief of Police Dean Sullivan and supported by the Mineral Wells Police Department. As we have had one home invasion in our neighborhood (burglars broke in while the neighbors were asleep in bed), we really want to watch out for each other!
