Animals seized two months ago in Graford are now available for adoption through the Mineral Wells Animal Shelter.
The animals were seized during a county animal cruelty call after neighbors noticed the menagerie was seemingly abandoned at a Graford residence.
• Cats – One adult female Tabby cat (needs to be spayed); four 2-month-old kittens.
• Dogs – one unneutered male white pit bull; a neutered male boxer or boxer-mix; a black unneutered male border collie mix.
• Small pet animals – a small, rodent thought to be a degu; a litter-box-trained male Dutch rabbit.
After the seizures, a goat with several open wounds had to be euthanized. A guinea pig died later at the shelter but the cause could be unrelated to the seizure.
The former animal owner, Michael Slocum, faces charges, including cruelty to livestock – a state jail felony – because of the goat’s condition. The Mineral Wells Police Department told the Index that the other animals appeared to be in good condition when they arrived at the shelter. Since there are not charges currently sought for cruelty to these animals, they are available for adoption. A chihuahua-mix was adopted out earlier in the week.
