Don and Alice Owens, of Irving, Texas, celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 30th, 2012.
Don, son of Carlton Benjamin and Agnes Grace Owen, and Alice, daughter of Rudolph Southerland Sr. and Evelyn Marie Purcell, graduated from Mineral Wells High School. They were married at the First Christian Church in Mineral Wells Texas in 1952.They have shared their love with three children – Don Owens Jr. of Possum Kingdom Lake, Tris Trotter of Lufkin, Texas, and Becky Mastin, of Bedford, Texas; sons-in-law, Steve Trotter and Charles Mastin; and grandchildren, Taylor Brooks and spouse, Justin, Spencer Mastin and Chelsea Trotter.
Don retired from General Motors Corp. and Alice retired from Ryder Truck Rental. A come-and-go social celebrating their 60th anniversary 2-4:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of their niece, Dru Purcell Chandler, 6 Redbud Drive, Mineral Wells, TX 76067. Invitations to share their joy are extended through the press.

On Saturday, April 20, at the State Convention for Porcelain Painters, held in San Antonio at the Hilton San Antonio Hill Country Hotel & Spa, our very own local artist, Allene Coupland, was presented with a plaque as an Honored Member of the Texas Federation.

Reflections on Neighborhood Watch and Solicitations
A couple of things happened that encouraged me to write this particular column. First of all, our neighborhood formed a Neighborhood Watch group. This is being encouraged by Chief of Police Dean Sullivan and supported by the Mineral Wells Police Department. As we have had one home invasion in our neighborhood (burglars broke in while the neighbors were asleep in bed), we really want to watch out for each other!
