Garner students place in regional art contest

GARNER —  Every child is an amazing creation. As such, each child has the ability to accomplish something that can make a difference in the world.

Local author, Lynn Baber recently published, “Amazing Grays, Amazing Grace.” While the book is about right relationships, many Garner students were able to connect with her primary theme that the human and horse relationship can teach one a lot about developing other ongoing relationships.

Students from throughout the metro area were invited to create art which portrayed the bond between horses and humans. Of the many students that submitted their art, 13 Garner students had their works selected to be honored at a program at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center in Weatherford on April 22.

In the Under 10-year-old division, Moriah Madey was first, Michael Lavinder was second and Thomas Hargrave was third. Finalists included Rebecca Maisel and Stephanie Shaw. In the 11-17 years division, Lindsay Taylor was third and Jayde Dittmer was a finalist. Garner students receiving “Honorable Mention” included Kayla Kindrix, Allison Wiggs, Jerrod Dittmer, Kaylie Taylor, Selli Sanchez, and Cameron Michels.

The Weatherford Main Library will host the winning art throughout the month of May. Thanks to Ms. Sharon Buell and our Garner parents who encouraged the students to use their creative talents to give us all insights into “relationships.”

In other news I want to encourage all voters to participate in the Garner Bond Election scheduled for May 8. Early voting continues at the Garner School through Tuesday.

Until next week …
