If you want your Christmas season to kick in right away, just visit the Mineral Wells Senior Center sometime this week or soon.
Avon’s display is fabulous, just sitting there waiting for your shopping pleasure. All of the old-time standby products are available, plus an array of special products and gifts. Well, everything is special, really, and everything bought and given are useful and appropriate as well as good to look at.
Then, ladies and gentlemen, if you will turn your attention to the long wall across the room, you will behold a plethora of handmade gifts and apparel and all sorts of other “giftables.”
Your participation in these sales will not only bring Christmas cheer to all, but will be profitable to the center in that the general funding will be increased likewise – and that will last all year! While there, check out and see that Walmart has donated many items for us to add to the sale.
We have a busy month ahead of us in that all the regular activities will take place, and other activities will be observed as well. The Silver Notes will continue their regular schedule around town on Monday mornings at 10 o’clock, starting with Palo Pinto Nursing Center on the 7th. The following day, the 8th, will be the monthly Health Check Day from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The following day, Wednesday the 9th, will be Cathy Torres Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with her bringing her helpful resources and services to share with those geriatrics who may be in need of them. Daily activities – craft time, exercise programs, the quilters, Silver Steppers, Bingo and the game time every afternoon – will proceed for the enjoyment of all.
There is some “special stuff” planned for the month, as well. Days to look forward to include an early birthday party on the 18th, the annual American Legion “Senior Christmas Dinner” on the 12th (no cost to seniors) and a Christmas party on the 21st. More will be mentioned about each of these affairs as the month passes.
Just the thought of all these many ways our community supports and provides good things for the seniors of this area is mind-boggling. For the many years of the center’s existence, this has been the flow of the good will our neighborhood holds for the older citizen. We appreciate the concern for our benefits more than can be expressed by word or sign. Thank you.
The United Way is still, at this point asking for donations. The goal stands at about 10 percent unmet, and is still open for whatever offerings are made. This little place on the map has always been very supportive of this annual fund raiser, and to show appreciation, the United Way of Palo Pinto County has always been there with whatever funds are available when a need arises. Now, let’s see if the goal can be met in the remaining days and let our donations be our Christmas gift to United Way. It will pay off down the road.
