Personally from Perrin
New school year signals start of activities
PERRIN – We had a very nice visit last Thursday from L.H. (Sonny) Renfro who lives in Hurst. He had called from Claude’s place in Weatherford and said he wanted to come up one day while he was on vacation, and we decided on Thursday. That was the only day I didn’t have someone coming in from Integra.
I hadn’t seen him in a long time and so glad to see him. He said he didn’t know when he will retire. He is his own boss, has his office and does what he wants to, does not know what he would do after he got all the things done he has planned to do after he retires. We sat outside on the glider an hour or so, had a good breeze at that time.
Elton Short is doing good now that he got the staples out. The doctor still wants him to take it easy.
Roy Blakley is recovering well, still gets a little tired when he’s out in the hot weather.
On Monday, my oldest great granddaughter, Jo Ann, was all excited about starting school at Millsap Elementary. She went one day to meet the teachers and the bus driver. She goes from 8 a.m. to noon and will be in pre-K. She won’t be 5 until January. She called and we talked awhile. I couldn’t understand all of it because she was so excited. Had her backpack on and ready to go. Her little sister, Heather, had hers on also, but I think she will be close to mama and won’t get lost. She just turned 3 years old.
Louise Farmer called to tell us about the Thetford family reunion to be held at the First National Bank Community building in Jacksboro on Saturday, Sept. 5-6. They will have lunch served on Saturday with potluck for Saturday night and a basket lunch on Sunday. They’ve invited their friends to drop by and visit if you can.
I heard Jim Herring has died. He was a long-time Perrinite.
The September Angel Food menu will soon be up around town at several of the local businesses. The money for the boxes is due Sept. 13. If you have any questions, call Fred Mealio at (940) 798-4455.
The Perrin school homecoming is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, with the football game beginning at 7:30 p.m. Homecoming for “old timers” is Saturday, Oct. 3. I’ll have more about any homecoming activities and put it in as soon as possible.
On Tuesday, the Lady Pirates volleyball team will host Forestburg. They and the football team played at Chico on Friday.
Perrin-Whitt school pictures for pre-K-11 is Thursday in the school library. Fall sports pictures also will be taken at this time. Seniors’ pictures will be taken on Friday. A sitting fee is required.
Thursday will be a very busy day since it will be the first cross country meet at Burkburnet and the first junior high volleyball game at Bryson beginning at 5:30 p.m. The junior varsity football team will travel to Wichita Falls City View with the game beginning at 6:30 p.m.
On Friday there will be a volleyball tournament at Jacksboro and the Pirates will have their first home football game hosting Wichita Falls City View with the game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Perrin-Whitt school schedule has been updated on the school’s Web site at www.pwcisd.net.
