Snow's on the ground, but spring is not far away

MINERAL WELLS — MILLSAP – The days are getting a little longer, so thankfully we can begin to have more time outside as weather permits. That will be a welcome relief, as almost everyone I talk with says they are ready for sunshine and spring!

Speaking of spring, it is now time to begin planting bulb bearing plants. Walden’s Store is advertising  they have potatoes and onions in stock. Maybe if things will dry up a little, folks can get these in the ground.

The Millsap Volunteer Fire Department has recently received two grants. One is from the Texas Forest Service and the other is an Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

The department is active in pursuing grants, which takes greatperseverance and organization. In the past five years the department has received nearly a half a million dollars in grant funding. This is an astonishing accomplishment for a small rural fire department. These dedicated firefighters are thankful, and the funds have made it possible to improve the level of service. May we be grateful for this vital organization.

With Feb. 15 being Presidents’ Day Millsap ISD will have a holiday. Also on this day Cool will have a general city meeting at their community center beginning at 6 p.m.

We hope that Joanne Barnhart soon feels better as she is taking physical therapy for back problems. On the other hand, Betty Brogdon, who had some serious health issues several months back, is looking absolutely sparkling and told me that she feels great! She is such a sweet lady and we are thankful that she is so much better.

Happy Valentines Day to each of you. “And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three: but the greatest of these is love.” I Corinthians 13:13
