CCA celebrates volunteers in April
with National Volunteer Week

CCA recognizes employees who volunteer and volunteers who work with inmates

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – CCA, America’s leader in partnership corrections, is dedicated to making a difference in the communities it serves and in the lives of inmates entrusted to its care.

In this spirit of giving, volunteerism remains a year round devotion at CCA facilities from coast to coast.

“When they’re not at work, many in our family are volunteering to help someone else’s family,” said Damon Hininger, CCA president and CEO. “Many of our people feel a need to ‘pay it forward’ – to be part of the solution, whatever that may be.”

On average each year, CCA facility staff members who volunteer participate in a minimum of three fundraising and four community outreach projects. The result is donated time, talents and money that improves the lives of others in the communities CCA associates call home.

The inmates at CCA facilities also benefit from the support of volunteers in the communities where facilities are located. There, individuals bring a wide range of services through rehabilitation programs that include; alcohol and drug counseling, life skills training, education courses, mentoring and religious services.

“Last year for instance, the chaplains in CCA facilities collectively trained and supported more than four thousand volunteers in faith and worship programs and services for inmates.” said Tim O’Dell, Director of CCA Chaplaincy & Development Programs. “These are people in the communities we call home, having a profound and positive impact on the inmates in our care.”

Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week officially occurs April 15-21. Through the years, the recognition has grown into a month-long celebration at CCA, in an effort to recognize employees who volunteer in the community and volunteers who work with inmates.

CCA is the nation’s largest provider of partnership corrections to federal, state and local government, operating more than 60 facilities, including more than 40 company-owned facilities, with more than 90,000 beds, in 20 states and the District of Columbia. In addition to providing the residential services for inmates, CCA facilities offer rehabilitation and educational programs, including education, vocation, religious services, life skills and employment training and substance abuse treatment.
