Take Heart With Dr. Puppala on board, PPGH can offer patients non-invasive cardiological services, including these diagnostic tests: • Echocardiography – uses ultrasound of various structures of the heart, including heart chambers, heart valves, heart muscle function, fluid around the heart and any septal defects (holes between the heart chambers). • Transesophageal echo – uses a camera, which goes down the throat and takes pictures of the heart. • Stress echocardiography – helps detect coronary artery disease and coronary artery blockages indirectly – during rest and after exercise – by examining the movement of the walls of the left ventricle, the majoheartr pumping chamber of the . • Nuclear cardiology – similar to stress echocardiography, this includes an injection of a small dose of a harmless radioactive tracer and photography of the heart muscle by a specialized camera (called a “gamma camera”). The camera detects the tracer as it passes through the heart arteries supplying the heart muscle. The pictures of the heart muscle, taken after rest and exercise, may reveal if the blood flow is adequate or not depending upon the blockages in the heart arteries. Dr. Puppala said this screening test has a very high accuracy rate.
